We are often asked why bees are found here and why we have chosen bees as pets. The answer is: bees are fascinating in their precision, very social and hardworking .

Here are some interesting facts about bees:

  • The special thing about the honeycomb becomes apparent after completion:
The cells then form perfectly uniform hexagons – with fascinating precision.
  • A colony of 60,000 bees provides the beekeeper with about 7 to 10 kilos of honey per year.
  • A bee is able to fly by beating its wings 245 times per second.
  • Approximately 3,000,000 flowers must be pollinated to produce one jar of honey.
  • Bees are able to use certain movements to indicate to other bees exactly where there are rich food sources. To do this, a bee “dances” in front in circular movements and the other bees follow. In this way, bees communicate the direction, distance and type of food to each other.
  • The actual honey is only created after a certain amount of time when the flower nectar is stored in the honeycombs. It serves the bees both as food for the brood and as a food reserve for the winter.
  • To produce one jar of honey, bees have to travel 120,000 km.
  • the queen (lays eggs), the workers (collect nectar and protect the nest) and the male drones (for reproduction).
  • Bees are indispensable for the ecosystem because they pollinate flowers. Without pollination, the plant would never produce fruit or seeds.
